Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring… well maybe just a few little creatures? Scratch! Scratch!
What would you do if you found out that your family had lice during your Holiday travels?
At The Last Strand Certified Lice Removal Specialists we would like to offer some advice for dealing with a lice outbreak while traveling.
So you and your family finally arrive at your in-laws after a long flight, you’re ready to get settled in and connect with family. You check your phone which is still on airplane mode and you switch it back. Immediately the phone rings, it is your daughter’s best friend’s mom; you answer the phone only to wish you hadn’t. She apologetically explains that her daughter has lice and is not sure where she picked it up. What would you do?
A. Throw the phone and run out of the room screaming!
B. Ignore what you just heard and pretend that nothing is wrong.
C. Calmly gather your family together and check everyone for a possible lice outbreak.
We know at this moment A. or B. seem like the correct answer but C. is what we would recommend!

Hopefully no one has lice and you can go back to drinking your eggnog and relaxing by the fire, but if you do find that your family is infested you need not panic. Well at least not too much. Here is what we would suggest. You will need to get a few things.
1. A good nit comb. You could go to a beauty supply store for a decent comb. We like the Terminator nit comb with stainless steel and micro grooved teeth.

2. We advise that you get shampoo, conditioner, and spray that have mint, lemon, rosemary, or tea tree oil fragrance. Lice do not like the odor of these products.
3. A glass of wine and some chocolate.
Okay #3 is optional but highly suggested for Momma’s nerves.
Next we would encourage you to put the conditioner on your child’s head and start combing. You will want to comb through the hair until you pull nothing out. Do this every day until nothing comes off the nit comb, then do this every other day for up to two weeks.
After your family has been combed through wash their hair and keep it pulled back and up.
We also recommend putting items in the dryer for 30 to 45minutes on high heat that could possibly have lice on them.
You can also put hair products into Ziploc bags overnight into the freezer.
If you are staying at someone’s house as a guest be sure to let them know and encourage the children to play wisely, not share brushes, pillows, or anything that has contact with the head.
We hope these tips will help you when dealing with Lice during times of travel. As always we at The Last Strand are here to help with all your Lice Removal needs.
