Wheeler Splits Basketball Evening with Marietta

Wheeler girls lose; Wheeler boys win

Wheeler's girls and boys basketball teams hosted their final Region 5-AAAAA games for the 2010-2011 season on Friday against Marietta High School.

Marietta's Lady Blue Devils showed up at Wheeler with some offense. Led by Jasmine McSwain's 19 points and Courtney Sprague's 15 points, Marietta rolled to a 61-31 win over the Wheeler girls.

Wheeler's Kiana Griffin and Tashalia Steede shared scoring honors for the Lady Wildcats with six points apiece.

The Wheeler boys withstood a late rally by Marietta, letting a-13 point lead slip to five with four minutes remaining in the game. But the Wildcats went on a run of their own, putting the game away 91-79. Wheeler had four players score in double-figures: K.K. Simmons led the way with 26 points; Charles Mitchell added 16; followed by Tevin Reeves with 15 points; and Chris Longoria scored 11 points.

Marietta's Rob Greer led all scorers with 28 points. Jay Ellis added 20 points for the Blue Devils.
