• Sheriff: Fire contained at Dodge County Law Enforcement Center, no injuries reported (41nbc.com) — A fire at the Dodge County Law Enforcement Center in Eastman was quickly contained Wednesday evening, and officials say all inmates and staff are safe and accounted for. Eastman firefighters traced heavy smoke to a dryer vent and extinguished the blaze, with cleanup at the facility expected to continue into the night.
• Gary W. Carr (theblacksheartimes.com) — Family and friends in Eastman are mourning carpenter Gary W. Carr, 75, who was born in Eastman and later made his home in Waycross. He is survived by close relatives including a son living in Eastman, with a memorial service to be announced later.
• Georgia's seventh case of measles this year reported in the Atlanta area (roughdraftatlanta.com) — A newly confirmed measles case in metro Atlanta has Georgia health officials watching vaccination rates closely, including here in Eastman, where local families have sought pediatric care. State data show kindergarten vaccination coverage still below herd immunity targets, while exemptions from school vaccine requirements continue to rise.
