Childcare worker forced siblings to fight each other (lawandcrime.com subscription) — Parents in Evans should know that a former worker at Discovery Zone Kids childcare center has been sentenced after a 2025 incident where two young siblings were forced to fight. She received eight months in jail, eight years' probation, and is permanently barred from childcare work.
   

2. Columbia County Sheriff's Office citizen academy to begin soon (wrdw.com) — Columbia County residents in and around Evans can soon sign up for the Sheriff's Office Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy, a free 10-week course starting Sept. 17. Held Thursday evenings in Evans, the academy offers behind-the-scenes access to operations plus supervised firearms training. Adults 21 and older can apply through the Community Services Division or the sheriff's website.
   

3. Blanchard Woods raccoon tests positive for rabies after biting person (theaugustapress.com) — Health officials confirm a raccoon that bit a person at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans tested positive for rabies, and the victim has already begun treatment. Residents are urged to avoid wild animals, keep pets vaccinated and secured, and report aggressive wildlife to Columbia County Animal Services or the Health Department. Extra caution is advised in wooded areas around Evans.
   

4. Softball Recap: Evans Adds Another Dominant Win to Their Ledger (maxpreps.com) — Evans Knights softball rolled to a 13-1 win over Glascock County, marking their second straight victory and evening their record at 5-5. Strong pitching has fueled this mini-streak, allowing just three runs over two games. Next up, Evans visits Greenbrier while Glascock County travels to Thomson.
