1. Gwinnett County Police seek public's help locating missing teen Adah George (ocgnews.com) — Gwinnett County police are urgently asking for help finding 16-year-old Adah George, who left her Lilburn home on Aug. 19 saying she was headed to Stone Mountain and hasn't been seen since. Her phone last pinged in the Stonecrest area of DeKalb County, and health concerns make locating her especially critical. Anyone with information is urged to call GCPD detectives at 770-513-5300.
2. Gwinnett woman, 52, gets life sentence in cold case drug deal stabbing murder (ocgnews.com) — Gwinnett County prosecutors secured a life-without-parole sentence for Carmen Marie Hunt, a Dacula woman convicted in the 2019 stabbing death of Ray Anthony Neal after a years-long cold case investigation. Local police, the medical examiner, and the district attorney's cold case team linked her to the Lawrenceville killing using fingerprints and evidence from a separate 2022 stabbing case.
3. An arrest in mother's silicone injection death gives children closure 17 years later (wsbtv.com) — Gwinnett County authorities have arrested 52-year-old Tamaira Angell Smith, now jailed locally and charged with felony murder in the 2009 silicone injection death of Loganville mother Eyanna Moore. Police say the unlicensed procedure happened at a Holiday Inn Express near Stone Mountain, and Moore's four children describe long years without answers. The family now looks to a Gwinnett courtroom for justice.
4. Everton Blair defeats late Rep. David Scott's daughter in Georgia special election (kansascity.com) — Everton Blair, a former Gwinnett County school board chair, has won the special election to briefly represent Georgia's 13th Congressional District, becoming the first openly gay man elected to Congress from Georgia. The article notes his past service on the Gwinnett County Board of Education and his progressive backing. He'll serve out the late Rep. David Scott's term through January.
5. New U.S. congressman will serve in Georgia's 13th District for only a few months (11alive.com) — Former Gwinnett County school board chairman Everton Blair will be sworn into Congress next week to finish the late David Scott's term in Georgia's 13th District, serving only about four months. The piece explains how short-term members can still be busy and influential, drawing on former Rep. Kwanza Hall's experience. Voters will choose Blair's longer-term successor in November.
