1818Blog: The Upcoming GOP Organizing Conventions -- Community Organizing for Good
John Dunn calls on Gwinnett conservatives to participating in the coming GOP Mass Meetings.
Conservative? Still smarting from the November election? Me, too.
“Well, I’ve given up on politics,” you might say, which works out really well for the opposition, and particularly the Chicago machine that is running our country right now. Give up on politics too many election cycles and it simply won’t matter anymore.
It worked really well for Georgia Democrats, who won control of the state government at all levels in 1872, only to be finally defeated in 2002. That is130 years, the longest single-party domination in Western Civilization – longerthan the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in Mexico and longer than theCommunist Parties in the Soviet Union and China. Consider, for a moment, the by-products of that arrangement in Georgia: The rise of the Ku Klux Klan, Jim Crow laws, and segregation; and though modern-day Democrats will rightly take credit for assisting in bringing those things to an end, it took generations to bringabout justice for many of our fellow Americans.

The Republican Party needs you. “The Republicans are a bunch of thus-and-suches,” you might reply. That is an easy response for folks who have a passive interest in how their government works and lean conservative. The fact is, like our country is arranged federally, so too are our parties. There is a national organization that deserves much of our ire for November’s debacle. They got worked over by Barack Obama, and did so following the old play book of “working with the other side,” not realizing that the other side has no such conviction.
One of the great mistakes that Mitt Romney made, in my estimation, is his campaign’s effort to cut much of the grass roots (read rank-and-file Republicans), out of the processes of the Republican National Convention. Combine that with his total disrespect of Ron Paul supporters, and you have a recipe for electoral disaster. Four million self-identified Republicans stayed home.

And America continues to slide into the abyss.
Are you a libertarian? Are you a social-conservative or do you identify with the Tea Party? The time to ready ourselves for the next election is now. And that election is next year.
I encourage everyone to get involved, literally, at the grass roots level by participating in the Gwinnett Republican Party’s precinct mass meetings coming up on February 9th, from 10am to 11am. They only take an hour of your time, and you stand a really good chance of being elected to leadership of your precinct. “Community organizing” has been made a bad word, but a good precinct captain can organize the community for good.
All you need to know is what school board district you live in to know where to go. The following are the details as taken from the Gwinnett GOP’s website:
Mass Meetings
February 9th, 2013 Doors open at 9am; Meeting begins at 10am Locations:
School District 1: Gwinnett GOP Headquarters, 46 South Clayton St., Lawrenceville.
School District 2: Collins Hill High School Media Center, 50 Taylor Rd. Suwanee.
School District 3: Ippolito’s Restaurant, 350 Town Center Ave, Suwanee.
School District 4: Snellville City Hall Community Room, 2342 Oak Rd., Snellville.
School District 5: Singleton Road Activity Building, 5520 Singleton Rd., Norcross.
Participation in these events can enable you to participate in the County, District, and State conventions, all of which are held for the purposes of organizing the party. Those dates are as follows:
The Gwinnett GOP Convention will be held on March 9th at Central Gwinnett High School in Lawrenceville. Doors will open at 9am and the meeting will start at 10am. Here, delegates will choose the Gwinnett GOP’s executive committee, including chairman, vice-chairmen, secretary, treasurer, and at-large members. Delegates to the District and State Conventions will be chosen here, as well (hint: most delegates qualify to go to the District and State).
Republican District Conventions will be held on April 20th, at locations to be announced. The District GOPs are based upon U.S. Congressional District lines. As Gwinnett has a number of congressional districts, the convention locations willvary. As at the county level, District GOP leadership will be voted upon at these events, with more delegates to the State GOP Convention picked here.
Finally, the Georgia Republican Party Convention will be held May 17th-May 18th in Athens this year. Delegates will vote for leadership posts within the state party. In my experience, the State Conventions are a pretty good time, as well.
Seem like too much? The Internal Revenue Service announced this week that the least expensive policy for a family under Obamacare will be $20,000.00 a year. Your help is needed to carry on the gains made by the Tea Party and other conservative grass-roots movements in 2010. These movements happened at the state and local level in this country, and will continue to do so. The Republican Party needs the energy of those movements. With your help, the movementwill continue.
