(SUWANEE, GA – May 7, 2015) Members of the Generation Rx Club of the GA-PCOM chapter of the American Pharmacists Association visited Riverside Elementary School this week to raise awareness about the pharmacy profession and to educate third grade students about the difference between medicine and candy.
The learning was done using two games, “Medicine vs. Candy” and “Good Choice vs. Bad Choice” In the first game, the children learned that some medicines may actually look like candy, and to ask a trusted adult before taking any medication. In the second game, the third graders were schooled in making good choices. School of Pharmacy students then spoke to the students about the role that pharmacists play in the community and the reasons they chose pharmacy as a career.

Third grade teacher Genny Greco commented, “I know my third graders are better for having the chance to learn from such passionate older students. This (enables) them to see the different types of careers that are available to them.”
