GAC Win Gives Gwinnett Another State Championship

Coach Eddie Martin and the Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans beat Bleckley County 69-52 to win the Class AA boys basketball championship.

Greater Atlanta Christian School won its third boys basketball state title in four years with a 69-52 win over Bleckley County Friday night in the Class AA finals at the Macon Centreplex.

The championship was the sixth Georgia High School Association boys hoops title in school history.

GAC previously won state titles in 1971, '72, '77, 2010 and 2011. It was the sixth state title in eight years for coach Eddie Martin, who won three championships at Norcross High School from 2006 to 2008.

The Spartans turned a close game into a rout in the fourth quarter.

According to final statistics available via the GHSA, Troy Morrison led the Spartans with 17 points. Four other players scored in double figures: Cam Boyd (13), Isaiah Wilkins (12), Justin Lewis (11) and Collin Swinton (10).

GAC's win also was the second title of the day for Gwinnett County schools. Wesleyan's girls won the Class AA title earlier in the day.

Gwinnett County schools now have 313 state championships all-time, with at least one more coming on Saturday, when Norcross and North Gwinnett play for the Class AAAAAA girls crown. Also Saturday, Norcross plays Hillgrove in the AAAAAA boys final.
