Gwinnett is Great in Girls High School Soccer Quarterfinals

Five of six county teams won Friday to advance to the semifinals.

Gwinnett County rocked the Georgia High School Association girls soccer tournament Friday night.

Five of the six Gwinnett schools playing in various quarterfinal games won, including fierce rivals Parkview and Brookwood in Class AAAAAA, and Greater Atlanta Christian and Wesleyan in Class AA. Buford advanced in Class AAA.

Class AAAAAA

  • Parkview beat Tift County 4-0 in Lilburn to reach the semifinals. The Panthers, who have won seven state titles, will play South Forsyth Tuesday, May 14, at home. South Forsyth beat Hillgrove 6-3 Friday.
  • Brookwood also advanced, with a 4-1 win at Lowndes County. The Broncos, who have won two championship, including sharing the 2003 title with Parkview, will play at Harrison, also Tuesday.

Class AAA

  • Buford won at Savannah Arts 5-0 Friday, and will host St. Pius in the final four on Tuesday. St. Pius beat Chapel Hill 5-1 Friday.

Class AA

  • Greater Atlanta Christian and Wesleyan advanced to face each other in the semifinals. GAC will host that game on Tuesday. GAC beat Putnam County 10-0 Friday, while Wesleyan beat Vidalia 2-1.

Class A

  • Hebron Christian was ousted from the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Fellowship Christian Friday.
