Local Teen wins prestigious gold medal award
America's Most Creative Teens Named as National 2016 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Recipients

Greater Atlanta Christian Student receives prestigious Gold Medal Award
The Scholastic Awards are the nation’s largest, longest running, most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for creative teens. Greater Atlanta Christian senior, John Shin, is a recipient of a a National Gold Medal in the 2016 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. By receiving this National Medal, John joins a legacy of celebrated authors and artists, including Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Alvedon, Robert Redford, Lena Dunham and renowned filmmaker Ken Burns. Nearly 320,000 works of art and writing were submitted by students in grades 7-12 this year. Students receiving National Medals are within the top 1% of all submissions. John Shin (Ji Hoon Shin) and his AP Studio Art teacher, Elaine Adams, have been invited to New York City June 1-3 to participate in the National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall, as well as to view the Art.Write.Now. 2016 National Exhibition of works from students receiving Gold Medals. The exhibition will be on display at Parsons School of Design at The New School and Pratt Institute’s Pratt Manhattan Gallery. We are so proud of the creative talents that John has developed while being a student in the Senior High Visual Arts Program at GAC.
