Press Release: Lanier Islands Teams Up with Cross Pointe Church to Show True Meaning of Christmas
Southern Lakeside Destination Donates 100 Turkeys to Local Food Pantry to Help Give Families in Need a Happy Holiday
Buford, Ga. – December 15, 2016 – Lanier Islands has been partnering all season long with Cross Pointe Church to show the true meaning of Christmas with its guests through a nightly Live Nativity presentation as a treasured part of the resort’s Winter Adventure experience. Recently, the Southern lakeside destination and the church – which has three campuses serving the north-Atlanta corridor – partnered in a different way to show the true meaning of Christmas. Lanier Islands was honored to donate 100 turkeys to Cross Pointe Church’s food pantry, Community CarePointe.
“We distributed every last one of them to families in need in the Duluth and Buford areas,” explained Gene Mason, Communications Minister for the church. “Every turkey went to a family who otherwise would not have a Christmas dinner. We put each turkey in a red gift bag, and they were the big surprise at the end of the food line. Every family was so excited to get one. Along with some 12 tons of additional food, we fed almost 400 families, which is a record for a one day distribution event at our food pantry. The families were literally lined up around the building. This was such a generous gift and we’re grateful for our partnership with Lanier Islands.”
The Community CarePointe Food Pantry is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon year-round* on the Duluth campus located at 1800 Satellite Boulevard. The Food Pantry is always in need of volunteers as well as donations of non-perishable foods and personal care items. Since its inception, Cross Pointe Church’s Food Pantry has had more than 27,000 family visits and distributed over one million pounds of food. In addition to the Food Pantry, Cross Pointe Church also offers a Clothes Closet – providing new and gently used clothing items to children, teens and adults in need, as well as useful household items.
