Six GCPS schools earn BOSCH STEM grants

Gwinnett schools awarded thousands in STEM Grants

September 23, 2020

Six Gwinnett County public schools have earned BOSCH STEM grants that will provide educational resources for teachers and increase student access to hands-on STEM and environmental sustainability programming. Alcova Elementary School, Jackson Elementary School, Northbrook Middle School, Osborne Middle School, Mill Creek High School and Paul Duke STEM High School will receive a combined total of nearly $50,000 from the Bosch Community Fund (BCF). The six Gwinnett schools were selected as grant recipients based on their commitment to and excellence in STEM education. The schools will use the grants to fund STEM-related projects at their respective locations. A list of the projects at each school, along with the grant amount earned, appears in the chart below.
The BCF, the corporate foundation for Bosch in North America, was established in 2011 to provide community engagement and philanthropic support. The Fund strives to support creative and practical STEM learning opportunities that are accessible to all students. The BCF awards up to $3 million in grants annually to projects with a science, technology, and environmental focus.

Funding will support rocket kits, EVO kits, VEX Mechatronics kits, Arduino Uno Starter kits, KNEX renewable energy set, water and soil testing kits, and teacher instruction.

Osborne Middle School

STEAM Realized with MakerSpace

$8,000

Funds will purchase Hand2mind makerspace carts and MooreCo dry erase desks.

Jackson Elementary School

STEMtastic Lab

$7,985

Grant funds will purchase LEGO Education WeDo Core sets, LEGO Mindstorm Ev3 Core sets, iPads, and iPad cases.

Paul Duke STEM High School

Expanding STEM through Teacher Training

$8,000

Funds will support the purchase of supplies required for project-based learning activities.

Alcova Elementary School

Building Nature’s Classroom

$10,000

Funds will support an outdoor classroom which will include raised beds for growing and harvesting vegetables, fruit trees, plants that promote pollination, and conservation resources such as compost bins and rain barrels.

Northbrook Middle School

STEM Makerspace

$8,000

Funding will support the purchase of laptops, charging carts, construction of a recording studio, and classroom furniture.
