Six Titles in a Row for Wesleyan Girls Basketball

The Lady Wolves beat Laney 76-43 Friday in Macon to win their sixth straight state basketball championship.

The Wesleyan girls basketball team won its sixth straight state championship Friday in the Georgia High School Association finals at the Macon Centreplex.

The Lady Wolves ran away from Laney in the second half to beat the Lady Wildcats 76-43 in the Class AA championship game, Wesleyan's 10th championship in 12 seasons under coach Jan Azar.

It also was the 11th state high school championship of the school year for Gwinnett County schools, which now have 312 titles all-time.

The championship ties a state GHSA record first set by Hart County, which won six in a row from 1989 to 1994.

Katie Frerking led the way with 28 points. Brittany Stevens added 14 and Paige Mosely had 11, according to statistics available via the GHSA website.
