• Corps of Engineers sets 2nd Virtual Meeting to discuss Hartwell Lake levels (wnegradio.com) — If you live around Hartwell, you'll want to tune into the Oct. 8 virtual Corps of Engineers meeting on Hartwell Lake's drought-depressed water levels and new 656-foot full-pool cap. Officials will explain seepage concerns at Clemson's Saddle Dike, why lake levels must stay lower for now, and how they're monitoring safety while planning a long-term fix.
   

• Scarecrow invasions in North Georgia: Your 2026 guide (fox5atlanta.com) — Downtown Hartwell's square is getting decked out this October for the Stars & Stripes & Scarecrows display, with local businesses, families, and groups creating patriotic-themed scarecrows. Displays are planned to be up by October 4, and you can stroll through and vote on your favorites throughout the month as part of a regional scarecrow trail.
