• Two charged in murder (jdledger.com) — Hazlehurst residents are being asked for tips after two local teens were charged in the Aug. 5 shooting death of 16-year-old Terrance McCoy on Carey Street. The GBI and Hazlehurst Police arrested the suspects on murder and gang-related charges, and investigators say anonymous information can still be submitted as the case moves toward prosecution.
   

• Teacher charged with improper sexual contact (jdledger.com) — Hazlehurst parents should know that Jeff Davis High School teacher Fernando Chavez has been arrested on charges of improper sexual contact with a student and interference with custody. District leaders removed him from all duties, accepted his resignation, and requested a GBI investigation, emphasizing student safety while authorities continue gathering information for possible prosecution.
   

• CPTC's Roberts retiring in Sept. (theblacksheartimes.com) — Hazlehurst native and Coastal Pines Technical College President Lonnie Roberts will retire Sept. 30 after 25 years with the institution and its predecessor. Roberts, a Jeff Davis High graduate and longtime county administrator, oversaw record enrollment growth, new programs, and facility upgrades across the college's seven campuses, strengthening technical education and workforce training for Hazlehurst and the broader region.
