Possible TB Exposure At GA High School Prompts Testing

JOHNS CREEK, GA — Health officials in Fulton County have notified Johns Creek High School families of possible tuberculosis exposure on campus, according to a letter obtained by Patch on Thursday.

The letter from the Fulton County Board of Health was sent to families Wednesday, according to Fulton County Schools.

The potential exposure was due to a person at the school who was diagnosed with tuberculosis, health officials said. It is unknown where or how the person contracted the illness.

The Board of Health plans to send any students who may have had contact with the person a second letter regarding TB screenings, the department said.

Two testing and result reading days will be scheduled in June and July at the North Fulton Regional Health Center facility in Alpharetta, health officials said. These will be free to students.

TB, a lung disease which is transmitted through the air, can spread through coughing, speaking or singing, health officials said.

The illness can be prevented, and can also be treated with medications.
