LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A Gwinnett County judge has died after battling cancer, Gwinnett County Commission Chairman Nicole Love Hendrickson announced Sunday.
The death of Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge Deborah R. Fluker was also announced by the court in a Facebook post, though the court did not say when she died.
"On behalf of the Superior Court bench, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, loved ones, colleagues and all who had the privilege of working alongside her. We honor her service and her legacy with gratitude and respect," court officials said.
Fluker's husband, Reggie Fluker, took to Facebook to honor his wife, the Daily Post reported.
Per the report, the social media post read:
"It’s been a heck of a journey Deborah Fluker, we are proud to say we had the opportunity to travel it with you. Our hearts are heavy right now and the outpouring of love that friends, family, colleagues and the rest of the community has shown us during said journey has been overwhelming. I can’t express how much we appreciated the support. We’re gonna miss you Babe, we got it from here. Rest in Power til I see you again."
Fluker, who was elected in 2020 to the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit, previously served as a magistrate judge and an associate judge for the Dacula Municipal Court.
According to the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers, Fluker served as a Gwinnett County magistrate judge from 2016-20.
Before she was a judge, she was prosecutor for the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office, the Daily Post reported.
She is also a Georgia State University College of Law graduate and a graduate of the University of Virginia McIntyre School of Commerce, according to the GAWL.
Court officials remembered Fluker as a fair judge who upheld the integrity of the judicial system and who had a "thoughtful approach to the law."
The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office echoed this sentiment, saying Fluker's professionalism and thoughtful judgment earned her respect from her colleagues.
Fluker's impact will long last, authorities said.
"We extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. Judge Fluker's legacy of service will be remembered with honor and gratitude," authorities said in a Facebook post Sunday.
Tributes poured out onto social media after news broke of Fluker's passing. Here's a few of them:
Gwinnett County Magistrate Judge Regina Matthews: "Deborah, my heart hurts so very much. Imagining life without you is difficult to grasp; but I am comforted in all the amazing memories we have, and in knowing that you can rest eternally with our Saviour- no more suffering, no more pain. Thank you for all the wisdom, your loyalty, friendship, your unyielding support and love. I will carry you with me always. Forever grateful to God for bringing you to my life. Your impact is immeasurable. Rest easy my sister. We got it from here."
Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge Angela Duncan: "Today we mourn one of our sisters from Gwinnett County Superior Court. She was fierce in the courtroom whether she was an ADA or a defense attorney. She was a stern but fair Judge. She was an amazing mother to her two beautiful children and she was a wonderful wife to Reggie Fluker. Rest in Peace Deborah Fluker. You will be missed."
Former Georgia Representative Donna McLeod: "Judge Deborah Fluker true fighter. After a valiant battle, she went home to be with the Lord. She was truly a beautiful soul.
My sincere condolences to her husband, #children, #family and #friends"
