LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A judge on Tuesday handed down three life prison sentences to a man accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a girl dating back to when she was 3-years-old, Gwinnett County prosecutors said.
It took a jury about four hours to find Jorge Nagera Perez, 33, of Lawrenceville, guilty of rape, aggravated child molestation and other charges on Tuesday morning, according to the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office.
Police began investigating Perez in September 2022 after being notified of the sexual assault allegations, prosecutors said. At the time, the girl was 11-years-old.
Investigators determined Perez had sexual contact with the girl, formerly of Ohio, during the four years she lived in Georgia, prosecutors said. She was 7-years-old when prosecutors said the abuse began in Georgia.
Witness from Ohio testified Perez abused the girl when she was 3-years-old, prosecutors said.
Ultimately, the jury found Perez guilty of two counts of rape, three counts of aggravated child molestation and two counts of child molestation, prosecutors said.
He was sentenced to three life prison terms plus 89 years, prosecutors said.
“This is absolutely depraved,” Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said in a news release. “We will continue to help this young girl and her family get the assistance they need to heal and recover from what the defendant did.”
