LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A Gwinnett County Police officer has been fired in connection with a recent crash during which police say the officer did not follow proper procedures.

After an internal investigation, police on Thursday said Officer Myles Green was fired from the department Monday in connection with the June 5 crash, which resulted in serious injuries.

Green was responding to an emergency call at the time when police said he drove into an intersection against the traffic signal without first making sure the intersection was clear.

Per departmental policy, Gwinnett officers are to fully stop and determine a right-of-way before driving through an intersection against a traffic signal, police said.

The Georgia State Patrol, which is investigating the crash, has acquired arrest warrants against Green in connection with the accident, police said.

Green had been with the department since April 4, 2022 and was a November 2022 graduate of GCPD's 114th Academy. Upon completion of field training, police said he began performing solo patrol duties on April 1, 2023.

“The Gwinnett County Police Department is committed to serving our community with professionalism, integrity and accountability," Gwinnett County Police Chief J.D. McClure said in a news release. "Protecting lives and property remains central to our mission, and that commitment extends to every person traveling our roadways. We recognize that public trust is built through consistent actions, and we hold our employees to high standards in every aspect of their service.”
