Toddler Dies In Locked Car, Mom Charged: Lawrenceville Police

A mother is facing murder charges after police say her 1-year-old son died in a locked car at a Lawrenceville hospital.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A 1-year-old boy died after recently being left in a locked car, and his mother is facing murder charges in his death, Lawrenceville Police said Thursday.

Officers responded to Northside Gwinnett Hospital around 4 p.m. Wednesday after being notified of an unresponsive child inside a locked car, police said.

When they arrived, police said officers found the car in the hospital's employee parking lot. Once inside, police said they found the boy dead in his car seat.

The boy's mother, who police identified as 29-year-old Deja Coleman, was arrested on second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to child charges, police said. She was taken to the Gwinnett County Detention Center, police said.

The boy was not identified.
