Here are the top stories today in Loganville-Grayson:
After a quick delay in production, Walnut Grove High School drama students are, once again, moving forward with rehearsal for their spring musical, "Mean Girls." The Broadway musical was recently released to high schools for production, and the former WGHS drama teacher chose the script to be one of the first high schools to put on the show. The script was adapted by an outside production company, so that the content was appropriate for high schools. However, after a parent complained that it still wasn't acceptable, the school temporarily suspended production. Drama students have been working on the production since November, and with less than a month before opening night, it was looking as though they may have to scrap the show. With a new compromise, WGHS is working with the outside production company in hopes that they approve revisions to the script so that all parties will be in agreement about the musical they put on stage. Tickets can be purchased on GoFan for March 16 and 17 at 7 p.m. or March 18 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. (Monroe Local)
Gwinnett County code enforcement officers could see changes to the way they conduct inspections and communication with tenants. Gwinnett County Commissioners expressed support for the International Property Maintenance Code, "giving code enforcement the ability to work with tenants at residential rental properties." The change would hold landlords accountable for the way they maintain their properties for tenants. After a 60 day review, the code enforcement office will be able to directly issue citations for interior code violations. The change will help to ensure that tenants are safe and comfortable in their homes. (The Georgia Sun)
The Gwinnett Convention & Visitors Center began construction on the massive expansion, that would double the size of the previous space, to the former Infinite Energy Center during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Without the number of conventions that may delay construction, the project proceeded with speed. Now known as the Gas South Convention Center, the event space hosted its "grand reopening" this month with over 100,000 square feet of event space and a calendar of events booking out until 2025. The Gas South Convention Center was home to 200 events and over $1 million in profits last year, and the positive economic impact for Gwinnett County expands into local businesses including restaurants, hotels, shopping, and much more. We all know The Masters is infamous for lush green grass and incredible azaleas, but it's the egg salad that really gets golf fans going. Originally intended to give fans an authentic experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, The Masters created a "Taste of the Masters Hosting Kit." The option was only intended to be available for the 2020 and 2021 Masters Tournaments, however, fans missed the kits and took to social media to plead for the return of the "Taste of the Masters." So, now it's back by popular demand and available to order directly from the Masters Patron Shop on the website. The kits will be delivered by Friday, April 7 to give fans the full experience once again. (Golf WRX 19th Hole)
