• Cotton Avenue business owner says new initiative could bring life back to Macon's historic downtown (13wmaz.com) — Downtown Macon's Cotton Avenue, still dotted with empty storefronts, could see new life under governor candidate Rick Jackson's Legacy Corridor Initiative, which aims to help small businesses with licensing, financing, and state contracts. Mule Barn owner Dale Fordham, who moved from a Cochran food truck into a former Z Beans building downtown, says any push to fill nearby vacancies would boost traffic and the broader local economy.
• Man pleads guilty in meth-impaired crash that killed motorcyclist (41nbc.com) — A 34-year-old man has pleaded guilty to first-degree vehicular homicide in a meth-related crash that killed motorcyclist Michael Burnett on Riggins Mill Road in 2023, according to the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office. Investigators said his pickup crossed back into Burnett's lane, and a judge sentenced him to 15 years, including mandatory substance abuse treatment.
• RECALL WATCH LIST: Playsets, magnetic blocks, Kettle Cuisine tomato bisque, Hampton granola recalled (41nbc.com) — Macon families are being urged to double-check their homes for several newly flagged safety hazards, including a toddler slide playset linked to a child's death and magnetic toys that can cause life-threatening injuries if swallowed. Additional recalls cover a tomato bisque soup kit sold at Walmart, including in Georgia, and a lactation granola potentially contaminated with salmonella. Residents should discard affected items and seek refunds.
