📰 News we're reading

1. Incident report offers new details in deadly weekend shooting at Macon home (13wmaz.com) — A Macon man was found shot to death inside a Maynard Street home Saturday, and Bibb County deputies are now treating the case as a homicide. Investigators have not named any suspects or described what led to the shooting, and they're asking anyone in Macon with information to contact the sheriff's office or Macon Regional Crimestoppers.

2. Macon-Bibb says homelessness dropped 34% compared to 2024, based on biannual 'Point In Time' count (13wmaz.com subscription) — Homelessness in Macon-Bibb County has dropped about 34% since 2024, according to the January 2026 Point-In-Time count, with fewer people both unsheltered and in shelters. Local leaders credit efforts like the Brookdale Resource Center but say downtown Macon still faces challenges, framing homelessness as both a public safety and public health issue that will require continued outreach and accountability.

3. Bibb deputies asking for help finding 27-year-old Kevin Stone (41nbc.com) — Bibb County deputies are asking Macon-area residents to help find 27-year-old Kevin Dwayne Stone, whose blue Honda Accord was last seen late August 29 at Riverside Drive and Pierce Avenue. Stone, who has schizophrenia, disappeared after being last seen in Americus, and anyone in Macon or nearby who recognizes him or his car is urged to call the sheriff's office or the listed investigator.

4. Georgia's new medical cannabis law puts law enforcement on a learning curve (13wmaz.com) — Georgia's updated medical cannabis law is expanding legal products and putting Macon at the center of training for law enforcement, with officers touring Fine Fettle's local cultivation facility to understand what's now legal. The Macon site, operating for about two years, tracks every gram and plans to open a dispensary this fall, as the state's patient registry quickly grows and agencies adapt to new roadside enforcement challenges.
