1. Macon-Bibb to Dedicate 'Otis Redding Way' in Honor of Music Legend (middlegeorgiaceo.com) — Macon-Bibb County will dedicate parts of Cotton Avenue and Mulberry Street Lane as "Otis Redding Way" on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, honoring the soul legend's deep Macon roots. The 10 a.m. ceremony at the Zelma Redding Amphitheater marks what would have been Redding's 85th birthday and celebrates his lasting impact on local music, education, and youth programs.
2. UPDATE: All 12 defendants sentenced in Macon's Operation Mobile Order drug case (41nbc.com) — Federal prosecutors have now sentenced all 12 people tied to the Macon-based "Operation Mobile Order" drug trafficking ring, which ran a cocaine trap house on Richard Street and stashed weapons on Williamson Road. Several Macon residents received lengthy federal prison terms with no possibility of parole, after a two-year FBI investigation that dismantled the armed network across Macon and Central Georgia.
3. Macon-Bibb leaders move forward on plans for more sidewalks, trails along Gray Highway (13wmaz.com subscription) — Macon-Bibb County has accepted federal funding for the $7 million East Macon Loop, adding new sidewalks, multi-use trails, and lighting along Gray Highway to reduce pedestrian deaths. The project will better connect East Macon neighborhoods to the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail and shopping areas, with completion expected in June 2031.
4. Abandoned puppy at Macon Dog Park diagnosed with parvovirus. What the county says you need to know (13wmaz.com) — Macon-Bibb County Recreation is warning dog owners after an abandoned puppy at Macon Dog Park tested positive for parvovirus, a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening disease for unvaccinated dogs. Officials say vaccinated pets should be protected but urge owners to consult their veterinarians, keep dogs' shots current, and follow park rules while the virus lingers until a hard winter freeze.
5. Macon Water Authority confirms 153,000 gallons of sewage overflowed, roughly one-quarter of an Olympic-sized pool (13wmaz.com) — Macon's Water Authority reports that about 153,000 gallons of sewage overflowed near Allen Road after a deteriorated manhole caused a blockage, though they say it did not enter state waterways. Crews removed debris, treated the area, and notified the Macon-Bibb County Health Department, while reminding residents that sewage overflows can pose serious health risks.
