• Labor Day: Over 20 years, Macon swapped industrial giants for a broader economy (macon.com) — Macon's job market has shifted from a few big factories to a diverse mix of manufacturing, health care, education, logistics and major employers like Mercer, Navicent, GEICO and Amazon. Local experts explain where the 7,500 manufacturing jobs and 101,000 total positions stand now, what new plants and headquarters are coming, and how automation and AI may reshape opportunities for Macon workers.
• Deputies: Man charged after firing shots, barricading himself in Macon home (41nbc.com) — Bibb County deputies say a 50-year-old man fired shots from inside a home on Villa Avenue in Macon Saturday, then barricaded himself before eventually surrendering. No one else was inside, a firearm was recovered, and he now faces aggravated assault, firearm possession by a convicted felon, and theft-by-receiving charges after being evaluated at a medical facility.
• Convicted felon sentenced after traffic stop leads to stolen gun arrest (fox5atlanta.com) — Federal prosecutors based in Macon have secured an eight‑year prison sentence for a metro Atlanta man caught with a stolen handgun during a traffic stop on I‑75 in Butts County. Officials say the case reflects a broader Middle District push to prosecute repeat felons who illegally carry guns, aiming to deter violent crime across central Georgia communities.
