1. Bibb County School District pauses consolidation plans, starts new review process (41nbc.com) — Families in Macon should know the Bibb County School District has paused its three proposed school consolidation plans, including options that would have closed Sonny Carter and Hartley elementary schools or discontinued VIP Academy. Instead, leaders will form a new advisory committee with board members, staff, and consultants to review data, gather more community input, and shape any future recommendations.
2. Man arrested for raping patient he knew at Atrium Health Navicent, sheriff's office says (13wmaz.com) — A man has been arrested and charged with rape and battery after a patient reported being assaulted in her room at Atrium Health Navicent Hospital in Macon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office. Investigators say he left the hospital after the alleged August 14 attack and is now out on bond with an ankle monitor, while local and statewide hotlines are highlighted for anyone facing domestic or sexual violence in Central Georgia.
3. Motorcyclist in critical condition after Macon crash involving pickup truck (41nbc.com) — A motorcyclist is in critical but stable condition after colliding with a pickup at Jeffersonville and Donnan roads in Macon Friday afternoon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office. Deputies are still investigating and are asking anyone with information to contact the sheriff's office or Macon Regional Crimestoppers.
4. Macon American Legion honors lives lost on 9/11 and in aftermath with ceremony, memorial (13wmaz.com) — American Legion Post 3 in Macon is honoring 9/11 victims and service members lost in the years since with a Patriot Day ceremony and the "Georgia's Fallen Memorial." Residents can visit the free display of more than 200 fallen Georgians at the Thomaston Road post through Sept. 15, offering a powerful reminder to future generations to never forget.
5. Muscogee Nation returns to Macon for annual celebration as push for national park continues (13wmaz.com) — Macon will host the 34th Ocmulgee Indigenous Celebration Sept. 12–13, bringing Muscogee citizens from Oklahoma back to their ancestral homeland at Ocmulgee Mounds. Visitors can experience traditional games, modern Muscogee art, cultural demonstrations, and a new sculpture unveiling, while learning about the ongoing push to redesignate the area as an Ocmulgee National Park and Preserve.
