2 Killed In Jeep Crash In Cobb County

Police say the driver is believed to have been speeding when the Jeep flew off the road and ended up hitting two trees on the shoulder.

MARIETTA, GA — Two people were killed late Saturday night when a Jeep flew off of the roadway in west Cobb County and slammed into two trees.

The driver, Meghan McClendon, 26, of Powder Springs, and her passenger, Javonte Knight, 23, of Marietta, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cobb County Police Department.

According to police, the crash happened at about 11:29 p.m. on Hiram-Lithia Springs Road just north of Story Road. While McClendon was driving south on a curve, the Jeep crossed into the other lane and flew off the road, police said.

It kept going onto a grassy shoulder before hitting two trees, according to police. They said Knight was thrown from the Jeep during the crash and landed on the shoulder of the road.

According to police, McClendon is believed to have been speeding at the time of the crash.
