DNA Helps Solve 1994 Marietta Rape Case

Genetic material collected from a recently convicted criminal was matched to the 20-year-old DNA from the crime scene.

A man currently incarcerated in Carroll County on an aggravated assault charge now faces additional charges in a 20-year-old Marietta rape case.

According to WSB-TV, Terrence Beavers had his DNA collected upon his most recent conviction, a law that came into effect in Georgia six years ago. Marietta police ran the DNA collected from a 1994 rape at Park Street Elementary School in Marietta against recently-collected DNA from convicted criminals, and matched their DNA to Beavers’.

A search of Carroll County jail records did not reveal Beavers’ name, but WSB-TV says he has been charged with “several felonies” in relation to the 1994 rape.
