First Woman Promoted to Marietta PD Senior Command

Lt. Tanya Twaddell has been promoted to major, the first woman promoted to the department's senior command staff.

MARIETTA, GA -- The Marietta Police Department has promoted Lt. Tanya Twaddell to major.

She becomes the first female member of the department’s senior command staff. Twaddell has been a member of the department for 20 years, has a masters degree, and she is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute.

Sgt. Justin Rutland promoted to Lieutenant. Rutland is a Marine veteran who has been a member of the department for 10 years. He is a former member of the MPD SWAT team and he has a bachelor’s degree.

Off. David Baldwin promoted to sergeant. Baldwin is a 15 year member of the MPD and he has an associate’s equivalent degree.

All three competed in an intense mixture of assessment centers, tests, and an in depth interview process that tested their skills, knowledge, abilities and accomplishments in the area of police administration, patrol operations, community relations, and criminal investigations.

Chief Dan Flynn pointed out that the individuals who are being promoted now, along with the other candidates who closely follow them on the path to advancement, will be the future leaders of the department.
