Football Player From Marietta Accused of Assault

Allen Artis, a linebacker for the University of North Carolina, has turned himself into police.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Updated at 11:09 am. A football player from Marietta accused of assaulting a woman in North Carolina has turned himself in.

Allen Artis, 21, a junior linebacker on the University of North Carolina Tar Heels football team, is charged with sexual battery and assault, according to the Marietta Times, both of which are misdemeanors.

CNN is reporting that Artis has surrendered to police, one day after his accuser held a news conference announcing she was seeking charges against the reserve linebacker.

Delaney Robinson, 19, held a news conference on Tuesday, saying she filed the charges against Artis after police and prosecutors told her there was not enough evidence to pursue the investigation.

The woman she was intoxicated after spending the night out with friends and was unable to consent.

“After I was raped I went to the hospital and gave an account of what I could remember,” said Robinson, as reported by CBS News. “I was treated like a suspect.

“I was drinking that night on Valentine’s Day," she said. "I am underage and I take responsibility for that, but does not give anybody the right to violate me.”

Artis has one tackle in two games this season for the Tar Heels. He played primarily on special teams last year and had 19 tackles during his first two seasons.
