Former Cobb Teacher Of Year Indicted On Sex Charges

The teacher is accused of meeting with a student about a nonexistent school club then, later, having sex with her.

MARIETTA, GA — A former Teacher of the Year in Cobb County has been indicted by a grand jury on charges he had sex with a student.

Spencer Heron, 49, was indicted on five counts of sexual assault of a student, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. According to the charges against him, Heron — a former broadcast video teacher at Kell High School — conducted an illicit relationship with a female student that began some time between late May and early September 2017.

A police warrant says Heron met with the student several times over the summer under the pretense of meeting for a school club that didn't actually exist. Later, he and the girl had a sexual relationship, the charges say.
