Pedestrian Killed On Cobb Parkway

Police say the man walked out into traffic at about 6:15 a.m. on wednesday.

MARIETTA, GA — A man was struck by an SUV and killed early Wednesday when, police say, he stepped out in front of traffic on Cobb Parkway.

Cobb County Police say Mark Anthony Campfield, 48, stepped into the roadway near EMC Parkway at about 6:15 a.m. When he did, he was hit by a 1998 Ford Explorer driven by Erasto Maravilla, also 48, of Lawrenceville, police say.

Maravilla immediately stopped. Campfield was taken by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Dana Pierce said no charged are expected to be filed in the incident. Maravilla was not injured in the collision.
