100 Black Men leader among state's 50 Most Influential Latinos

Louis Negron, executive director and COO of 100 Black Men of Atlanta, has been named one of Georgia’s 50 Most Influential Latinos by the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GHCC).

Negron, an Afro-Latino whose parents are from Puerto Rico, was named to lead 100 Black Men of Atlanta in February. The nonprofit provides college preparatory services and mentorship to at-risk Atlanta youth.

Negron gained his first nonprofit experience as an intern with the Children’s Defense Fund, headed by famed children’s rights activist Marian Wright Edelman. After a decade-long stint in higher education, he returned to the nonprofit world, where over the years he worked with agencies such as Year Up, United Way of Atlanta, United Way of Transylvania County, Operation HOPE and Supportive Housing Communities.

The Most Influential list includes people from business, sports, entertainment and politics. Negron is joined on the Most Influential list by such notables as: APS Board Chair Jason Esteves, GALEO executive director Jerry Gonzalez, Georgia State Representative Zulma Lopez, Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John King, TV journalist Wendy Corona, Georgia Power Area Manager Misty Fernandez, infectious disease expert Dr. Carlos del Rio of Emory University and Carolina Ramon, director at UGA SBDC Office of Minority Business Development.

The 2021 members of the 50 Most Influential Latinos of Georgia were honored on Sept. 1 at Truist Park.
