2nd Annual Midtown Race for MAC Raises $30K+ for Working Poor

Local Sponsors Joined Midtown Assistance Center (MAC) to Host 5K Road Race

Successfully drawing a multi-generational crowd of runners and walkers, the Midtown Assistance Center’s 2nd Midtown Race for MAC raised more than $30,000 to support Midtown’s working poor.

Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities stepped off on Saturday morning, June 13 in Piedmont Park to raise money to support MAC’s mission: to help the area’s working poor during emergency situations.

“The race appealed to all ages and provided a great way to support and celebrate MAC and our mission,” said Dorothy Chandler, Executive Director of the Midtown Assistance Center. “11 Midtown congregations, including Atlanta First United Methodist Church, form our base of support along with members of the local business community. We want more people to get to know MAC because that helps us find supporters and volunteers.”

About the Midtown Assistance Center (MAC): MAC helps people from all walks of life. Recipients are people who are employed, but facing temporary financial crises such as those brought on by illness, layoffs, and inconsistent or reduced work hours. Many of MAC’s recipients are employed in the retail, hospitality, security and construction industries. Often this population lives at the edge of poverty. On a daily basis, they are able to meet their own needs, but when the unforeseen happens, they may not have the resources to recover.

“Often MAC is the only safety net between hard-working men and women and homelessness,” said Ms. Chandler. “Since 1986, MAC has helped in over 100,000 emergency situations.” ###
