3 Arrested In GA Tech-Area Robberies
Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields had promised a stronger response after a string of seven armed robberies near the college this winter.

ATLANTA, GA — Three people have been arrested in a string of armed robberies near Georgia Tech this past winter that drew special attention from law enforcement officials including Atlanta's police chief.
Gemontaz Holley, 20, Sinquai Callaway, 21, and Donnell "Marquez" Frison, 20, are charged in connection with four robberies that happened in January and February. Three of those robberies were in Home Park, a neighborhood near Georgia Tech's campus in Midtown.
Atlanta Police Department spokesman Carlos Campos said Holley was already in custody in Washington County and Callaway and Frison were arrested by the department's fugitive unit and are being held in Fulton County Jail.

The Tech-area robberies happened Jan. 23 on Tumlin Street, Feb. 4 on Snyder Street and Feb. 8 on State Street. The fourth robbery happened Jan. 23 on Martina Drive in Buckhead.
In February, Atlanta Police Department Chief Erika Shields held a press conference to promise a stronger response from her department after seven armed robberies occurred near Georgia Tech in less than a month. She said at the time her department should have done more to prevent the crimes, while at the same time calling on Fulton County judges to crack down on career criminals.
"I commit to you that we will rein this in," Shields said at the time. "We are going to make arrests and we are going to change the narrative in this area. We simply cannot have our students at Georgia Tech, or any of the other colleges, being victimized in the manner that is occurring."
Campos said investigators are looking at the three arrestees as suspects in at least four other robberies.
