4th Midtown Race for MAC Raises $30,000 for Midtown’s Working Poor
Midtown Assistance Center's Race Provides Much-Needed Support

The Midtown Assistance Center (MAC) held the 4th Annual Midtown Race for MAC in Piedmont Park recently and raised $30,000 in much-needed funds to benefit Midtown’s working poor. Runners and walkers of all ages enjoyed the 5K event in Piedmont Park to support MAC’s mission of preventing homelessness and hunger for working families.
“We’re delighted to report that with the help of our sponsors and the runners the race raised over $30,000 to fund emergency assistance for low-income, working Atlantans,” said Dorothy Deakins Chandler, Executive Director of the Midtown Assistance Center. “This race is a great way to support and celebrate MAC and our mission. We want people to get to know MAC and have the opportunity to enjoy being outdoors in one of the most beautiful areas of our city.”
MAC is a nonprofit, interfaith organization whose mission is to provide emergency assistance to low income working Atlantans. MAC’s goal is to help prevent homelessness and hunger during periods of crisis. MAC has the support of eleven congregations as well as the Midtown Alliance, many businesses, foundations, individuals, government entities and volunteers. The members of MAC’s Board and its 250 volunteers represent a cross section of the Atlanta community.

“Often MAC is the only safety net between hard-working men and women and homelessness,” said Ms. Chandler. “Since 1986, MAC has helped in over 110,000 emergency situations.”
MAC helps people from all walks of life. Our clients are employed, but facing temporary financial crises such as those brought on by illness, layoffs, and inconsistent or reduced work hours. Many of MAC’s clients work in the retail, hospitality, security and construction industries. Often this population lives at the edge of poverty. Daily, they are able to meet their own needs, but when the unforeseen happens, they may not have the resources to recover.
