UPDATE: Police Chase, Motorcycle Accident Closes Three Southbound Lanes of I-75 in Midtown

UPDATE (7:08 p.m.): Three right lanes of the southbound Downtown Connector were shut down on Monday afternoon following a high-speed motorcycle chase which saw the motorcyclist weave dangerously in and out of traffic before rear-ending a disabled vehicle, the Georgia State Patrol says.

According to GSP, a Kentucky man was spotted driving at a high rate of speed on I-75 southbound near Akers Mill Road in Cobb County. A trooper attempted to pull the motorcycle over, but a chase ensued.

GSP says that the motorcycle swerved in and out of traffic on the interstate before crashing into the back of a disabled vehicle in the right emergency lane just north of 10th St. After hitting the vehicle, the rider was thrown from the bike and landed on the interstate, while the motorcycle kept going and eventually hit the passenger side of another vehicle.

No injuries to any bystanders were reported, but the motorcyclist was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, GSP says. Charges are pending, according to GSP.

UPDATE (6:23 p.m.): A motorcyclist is at Grady Memorial Hospital after causing a wreck which clogged three right lines of Interstate 75 southbound near 10th Street, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says.

The AJC says that the motorcycle was involved in a police chase when the accident occurred. The wreck was cleared and lanes re-opened by 6:15 p.m., the AJC says.

The driver is in stable condition, according to the AJC.

ORIGINAL STORY: Three right lanes of Interstate 75 southbound near 10th Street have been closed following a traffic accident, the Georgia State Patrol says.

Troopers are currently working the scene, but have not relayed details of the accident back to headquarters as of yet. Traffic delays are growing between Piedmont Road on Interstate 85 and 41 on Interstate 75.
