Kaiser Permanente of Georgia Physician Honored for Community Service

Earl Thurmond, M.D., a physician at Kaiser Permanente of Georgia, was presented with a 2013 11Alive Community Service Award for 11 years of volunteer work at Peachtree Pine Homeless Shelter in Atlanta, where he has cared for thousands of homeless men.

“I volunteer because every person that I see at the shelter reminds me of how blessed I am, and I want to be a blessing to others,” said Thurmond, who provides free medical screenings and treatment to dozens of homeless and impoverished men each month.

Each year, for the last 38 years, the Atlanta television station has honored “11 Who Care,” outstanding local volunteers who have demonstrated “selfless devotion for the betterment of the community.”
