APD's Newest Police Officers Graduate This Week

Tuesday's graduation is the culmination of a 22-week police academy and 12 weeks of field training with veteran officers.

The Atlanta Police Department is proud to announce the graduation of Class #239 to be held at City Hall Council Chambers located at 55 Trinity Avenue on Tuesday, June 30 at 7:00 pm.

Class #239 is reflective of the citizens of Atlanta with African-American, Caucasian and Hispanic ethnicities represented. This class consists of 19 men and 6 women with four people having military experience and 18 college graduates. The Citizens Police Academy Class #24 will also participate in the graduation with 20 new members.

The keynote speaker for the ceremony is Mr. Peter Aman, partner of the global consulting firm Bain & Company. Mr. Aman has more than 20 years of experience working with mid-sized and Fortune 500 companies in media, technology and industrial goods. His passion for public service led him to help Mayor Shirley Franklin develop a turn-around plan for the City of Atlanta in a three-year pro bono consulting engagement. In 2010, Mr. Aman took a two-year leave from Bain to serve as the Chief Operating Officer of the City of Atlanta under Mayor Kasim Reed where he supervised all city operating departments including Police, Fire and Corrections. Mr. Aman earned an MBA, with distinction, from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania. He is also a graduate of Duke University; where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in public policy, with honors.

The graduation ceremony concludes 22 weeks of rigorous training at the Atlanta Police Academy, along with 12 weeks of field training with veteran officers. The training includes classroom courses in constitutional law, Atlanta Police Department policy and procedure, hands-on defensive tactics, arrest techniques and daily physical fitness.
