ART PARTY at The Contemporary

Following its hugely successful return last fall, ART PARTY will once again burst with excitement in 2014. Hosted by Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (The Contemporary), ART PARTY is a multi-media event coinciding with the opening of Exquisite Exhibit: Parlour Games from the Studio Artist Program, curated by Joey Orr. The night will include entertainment, unique food and drink experiences, and a chance to enjoy open studios with 14 current Studio Artists.

Directly installed on seven gallery walls, the site-specific works in Exquisite Exhibit will engage the space and magnify the scale of this unique Surrealist parlour game. To create the “corpses,” each of three artists in a collaborative group will create a portion of an image without knowing what his or her fellow artists have created, though in the true spirit of a Surrealist parlour game, rules are always made to be broken. The resultant exquisite corpses will reveal an unconscious ethos and personality of each group.

In addition to the gallery exhibition, guests will enjoy ART PARTY fare from Article 14, Bad Dog Taqueria, Campagnolo Restaurant + Bar, Dennis Dean Catering, Eclipse di Luna, HENRY’S Midtown Tavern and Sun in My Belly. Mixologists from The Lawrence and Top Flr will stir things up in the VIP Pavilion along with Chef Tyler Williams who will present two culinary performances.
