Atlanta Adopts New Water Meter Installation Fees
The new rates go into effect on March 30.

ATLANTA, GA – The city council has adopted an ordinance to amend new residential and commercial water meter fees based on the cost of installation and connections to the water system.
The Department of Watershed Management says the majority of residential single-family homes will see a reduction in installation costs for three-fourths and 1-inch meters.
“Since the last revision of the city code in 2005, material and equipment costs have increased by 25 percent,” said Commissioner Jo Ann Macrina. “As a result, the city was not fully recapturing material and installation fees. While commercial developers will see an increase in installation costs from the city, providing them with the opportunity to self-install will allow them the flexibility of scheduling installations around their construction schedules.”

The ordinance also allows commercial customers to self-install meters purchased from the city. Self-installation will also free up city resources to address other critical needs and reduce installation backlogs. Self-installation fees will include the meter cost, including administrative and inspection services, as well as any applicable fire service detection checks and delivery costs.
The new fees will go into effect March 30.
