Atlanta Child Murders Backdrop of New Play

Serial Black Face opens April 2 for a limited run at Actor's Express in the King Plow Arts Center.

A new drama set against the backdrop of the Atlanta child murders is set to make its world premiere on April 2.

Serial Black Face and runs April 2-24 under the direction of Freddie Ashley.

Janine Nabers' play was selected by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Marsha Norman from 1,638 entries from 41 countries as winner of the 2014 Yale Drama Series competition, was published by Yale University Press in 2015. Its world premiere will be at Actor’s Express in Atlanta in west Midtown at the King Plow Arts Center.

A snapshot of the plot: Atlanta, 1979. The Atlanta Child Murders grip the entire city. Single mother Vivian copes with the disappearance of her young son while working tirelessly to give a fresh start to her troubled teenage daughter. When a handsome stranger enters her life with promises of new love, she soon learns that nothing is as it seems. This award-winning play by one of American’s most promising young playwrights pulses to life with extraordinary grace and raw emotional power.

One of the play's stars is Imani Guy Duckette, daughter of Atlanta actress Jasmine Guy.
