Atlanta Citizens Fire Academy Taking Applicants
The eight-week course gives ordinary citizens a glimpse into the life of an Atlanta firefighter.

The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department has scheduled its fall 2015 Citizens Fire Academy. The free, eight-week program will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 9, and continue for seven consecutive Wednesdays from 6 pm to 9 pm. Attendees will get an up-close look at the operations of the Department and be able to participate in activities like rapelling and driving fire apparatuses.
The program is held at the Atlanta Fire Rescue Training Academy, 407 Ashwood Avenue, in southwest Atlanta.
“We encourage Atlantans to participate in this fun and informative program,” says Interim Fire Chief Joel Baker. “We are certain that anyone who goes through the program will come away with a new understanding of the many services the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department provides.”
