Atlanta Community Food Bank Receives $10k Grant from CareSource

Atlanta Community Food Bank has been awarded a $10,000 grant from CareSource, Georgia's only nonprofit Medicaid managed care organization.

(ATLANTA) November 16, 2017 – Atlanta Community Food Bank has been awarded a $10,000 grant from CareSource, Georgia’s only nonprofit Medicaid managed care organization, to fund services that provide fresh, nutritious food to families facing food insecurity in the Atlanta area as part of its Days of Caring initiative.

The Days of Caring campaign will provide surprise grants of $10,000 each to 6 nonprofit organizations as part of the company’s commitment to holistically caring for Georgians. CareSource is committed to fighting hunger in Georgia, where 1 in 4 children face food insecurity.

“Many CareSource members have limited access to food for their families and we see the devastating results reflected in poor health outcomes. CareSource is committed to fighting hunger in Georgia, and we are proud to partner with Atlanta Community Food Bank to provide food to families facing food insecurity in Atlanta.” said Cathy Ponitz, vice president, CareSource Foundation.

The Atlanta Community Food Bank serves individuals and families in 29 counties in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia.

“We are so thankful to our friends at CareSource for this generous grant, which will greatly help our Food Bank this holiday season as we provide help to the more than 755,000 people we serve each year, and who need us more than ever this holiday season,” said Chaundra Luckett, Public Relations Manager at the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

CareSource, which began serving Georgia’s Medicaid population July 1, 2017, is a nationally-recognized nonprofit organization with a 28-year history of serving vulnerable populations. Earlier this year, CareSource partnered with local food banks to distribute nearly 100,000 pounds of fresh food to more than 1,800 Georgia families.
