Atlanta Emergency Management Agency Takes to Twitter for Chat

The Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency wants to prepare residents for emergencies to celebrate National Preparedness Month.

The disaster response agency responsible for Atlanta and Fulton County is hosting a Twitter chat on Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the beginning of National Preparedness Month.

The Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency (AFCEMA) will tweet back and forth with users starting at 1 p.m. Tuesday. So far, the agency has sent out tweets on specifying emergency contacts on a cell phone and ways that Atlanta residents can volunteer for the Citizen Corps, an organization focused on improving communities’ responses to disasters and emergencies.

AFCEMA’s Twitter handle is @AFCEMA and is using the hashtags #GetYourReadyOn and #NatlPrep during the tweet chat.

The agency wants to hear from residents on how they are preparing for disasters or emergencies, and is also keen on helping residents who have questions about disaster preparedness and emergency management.

National Preparedness Month is a campaign launched by ready.gov to help residents be prepared for an emergency situation. Ready.gov has information on how to create a survival plan, how to build a survival kit, and how to get involved with local community preparedness groups.
