Atlanta Jail Officers Attacked by Inmates

One of the corrections officers was severely beaten and sent to Grady Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

A corrections officer at the Atlanta City Jail is at Grady Memorial Hospital after he was jumped and beaten by a group of inmates, FOX 5 Atlanta has learned.

The officer was going into a cell block at the facility to confiscate an illegal cell phone possessed by one of the inmates, but was surrounded and beaten to the ground by up to a dozen inmates. A second officer who responded to the cell block was also attacked.

The second officer was not hospitalized for his injuries.
