According to WSB-TV, the city’s legal department has begun investigating the permit department for alleged bribery and granting special treatment to certain permit applicants. The allegations claim that department employees have asked independent permit expeditors to provide them with goods and services from their clients in order to speed up the application process.
City Councilwoman Mary Norwood told WSB-TV she had heard rumors of a resident being unable to start renovations because he or she was unwilling to pay out a bribe to get the proper permits.
