Atlanta Police Chief Sworn in as Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police Vice President

Chief George Turner will assume the presidency of the association in 2015.

The chief of the Atlanta Police Department has a few extra duties on his plate since being sworn in as the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police’s (GACP) 1st Vice President.

According to a department release, Turner was sworn in during the GACP’s Annual Summer Training Conference and will assume the presidency of the association next year. Turner will become only the second African-American to hold the GACP presidency in 53 years.

“I am looking forward to serving this year as the 1st Vice President,” Chief Turner said in the department release. “It is a vital organization that seeks to educate law enforcement professionals on a variety of key issues and provide a leading voice on public safety.”

The four day training conference was held in Savannah between July 26-30, and more than 548 heads of law enforcement agencies participated in the event. The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police is responsible for training the state’s top law enforcement officers.
