Atlanta Police Officer Shoots Man, Possibly Atlanta Firefighter

Officials are waiting to confirm the identity of the person who was shot before conclusively saying whether or not he is an Atlanta fireman.

An officer with the Atlanta Police Department shot a man who may be a member of the Atlanta Fire Department after that man pointed a gun at officers, officials say.

FOX 5 Atlanta reports that police were called to Clifford Avenue in northeast Atlanta at approximately 8 p.m. Sunday after someone called 911 and reported a man was pointing a gun at another person. Officers arrived on the scene and found the man with the gun, who then pointed the weapon at officers. One of the officers fired at the man, and a witness told FOX 5 that the man was wounded in the right shoulder.

Atlanta police officials have admitted to FOX 5 the possibility that the man who was shot is an employee of Atlanta Fire Rescue, but will not confirm or refute that possibility until they investigate further. However, CBS Atlanta reports that the man who was shot is confirmed to be a firefighter.
