Atlanta Spot Named Among Best Southern Restaurants

OpenTable honored restaurants in 14 states, 10 of them in the South, and Washington D.C. for being the best serving up Southern fare.

ATLANTA, GA — An Atlanta-based restaurant with a handful of locations locally has gotten a high honor — landing on a new list of the best Southern eateries in the country.

South City Kitchen, with locations in Midtown, Buckhead, Vinings and Alpharetta, was named one of the 50 Best Southern Restaurants in America by online reservations site OpenTable.

South City was joined by four other Georgia restaurants on the list, which featured spots in 14 states (10 of them in the South) and Washington D.C. The list was generated by more than 12 million verified diner reviews of more than 27,000 restaurants.

The first South City Kitchen location was opened in a 1920s bungalow in Midtown in 1993. Since then, the local chain has been serving up favorites like chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits, alongside more innovative regional cuisine.

South City also made a strong showing in May when we asked our readers to name the best fried chicken in Atlanta.

The restaurants was the first for Atlanta Fifth Group, which also owns and operates restaurants such as Ecco, La Tavola and El Taco.

Other Georgia restaurants that made the list are:

  • Abel Brown, Augusta
  • Alligator Soul, Savannah
  • Antebellum, Flowery Branch
  • The Olde Pink House, Savannah
